Check out this piece of genius I encountered today, courtesy of the AV Club and Mashable:
To coincide with the release of his new 47-CD box set, Bob Dylan has released an interactive music video for the song "Like a Rolling Stone."
"Designed
as an interactive television set for channel surfing, each video
channel features a different network style, from cooking, finance, and
home shopping, to sports and game shows, with actors lip-synching along
to Dylan’s classic song."
"I'm using the medium of television to look back right at us — you're flipping yourself to death with switching channels [in real life]," director Vania Heymann told Mashable.
So... how does it feel?
I just watched "Like a Rolling Stone" sung by Drew Carey on the set of The Price Is Right, a news commentator talking over a stock ticker, somebody on the Home Shopping Network, a woman interviewing shoppers on Rodeo Drive, and the Property Brothers flipping a house. Perhaps your experience of Dylan's song will be different... but the meaning-making brings the music to life in an entirely new and relevant way.
The video - and the box set - are both available on the official Bob Dylan site.
