12 Days of Youtube: Smoky Mountain Christmas

Back in the 80's, they used to occasionally make movies with female leads. This one was a made-for-TV Christmas Special, starring (and written by) Dolly Parton, featuring Lee Majors, guest starring John Ritter, and directed by Henry Winkler.  Seriously, if you were playing "70's TV Star Bingo," you would be yelling "Bingo" now.

Suprisingly, aside from Dolly's 80's-tastic foray into music videos, it has no musical numbers - it's more like "Scrooged" meets the Tennessee backwoods.

Country music star Lorna is fed up with her phony Hollywood existence, and decides to take a break back home in the hills of Tennessee. Despite the fact that she's supposedly a huge country star, nobody in Tennessee recognizes her.  But she does find cranky old Mountain Dan (Lee Majors), a jealous witch named Jezebel, a passel of adorable orphans who live in a deserted cabin, and a whole lot of heartwarming schmaltz. Which, because it's Dolly, is ok. Seriously, if you don't love Dolly Parton, what's wrong with you?
